What you thought of as “normal” no longer means the same thing anymore and that’s why the Alaska Cancer Care Alliance is putting on a series of presentations and workshops called the “New Norm”. Come learn about and interact with specialists who address the physical side effects of treatment,the mind/body connection,and how to actively participate in your health with nutrition and exercise. Workshop 1: Long-Term Physical Side Effects of Cancer Treatment

Join oncology nurse and cancer exercise specialist,Cindy Decker,RN,BSN,OCN,in a presentation and discussion of long-term cancer treatment (such as surgery,chemotherapy,radiation,hormone therapy,etc.) side effects.

Workshop 2:Nutrition

Join the Alaska Cancer Care Alliance and Dr. Markian Babij,ND,FABNO to discuss healthy choices before,during and after cancer treatment. Learn about supporting the immune system,making lifestyle changes and the latest in research on nutrition.

Workshop 3:The Psychological Impacts of Cancer

Come and learn about the psychological impacts that can result from a cancer diagnosis and treatment as well as some easy techniques to help reduce stress,assist mind-body harmony and thereby promote healing. Dr. Barbara Maryan,ANP,LMFT,will also discuss how relationships with spouse,family,and friends may change after cancer.

Workshop 4:Exercise

Learn about how exercise can help you play a vital role in your survivorship by increasing your energy,reducing risk of recurrence,boosting your immune system,and by just making you feel better. Irene Jordet,BS,MBT,of Alaska Regional Hopsital’s Oncology Rehabilitation Program,arms patients and survivors with knowledge and tools to kick-start and/or re-boot healthy lifestyle habits.
