Tuesday, December 1st: American Cancer Society Support Group. Weekly support group for cancer patients, survivors, family and caregivers. Every Tuesday, 7-8:30pm at Wells Fargo Bank. 301 W. Northern Lights, second floor conference room. 258-1937.

Tuesday, December 1st: Gynecologic Cancer Support Group. Let Every Woman Know is offering a regular support group free of charge in a drop-in format. This group is facilitated by a licensed mental health clinician. Please join us! Open to women in all stages of gynecologic cancer diagnosis, treatment, or survivorship. 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month, 12-1:30pm, Providence Cancer Center Conference Room 2401, 3851 Piper Street, 2nd Floor, Tower U, Anchorage 99508. Wednesday, December 2nd: US Too Guys Coffee and Shmoozing. Join Anchorage’s prostate and testicular support group in sharing, asking questions or just listening. It’s a great time to get to know one another and spend some time with those that probably know a thing or two about what you are going through. Every Wednesday, 10am. Wednesday, December 2nd: What’s the Stitch? A come-as-you-are, when-you-are-able support group for anyone touched by that “club” no one asks to join: cancer. Come learn a new skill, share your expertise, chat about what ails you, and make new friends! Every Wednesday, 2-4pm. Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Thursday, December 3rd: Alaska Native Medical Center Cancer Support Group. 1st & 3rd Thursday for Native Alaskan’s only at ANMC from 2-3pm. Call 729-1179 to find out location.

Saturday, December 5th: Yoga Therapy. For cancer caregivers, patients and survivors. Compassionate complementary care for cancer patients and caregivers. Please discuss referral with your doctors, no signed referral is necessary. A release of information between Yoga for Mental Health and your healthcare team may be requested. Billable to insurance for qualified participants. Saturday, December 4th: THNC Survivor Support & Fellowship Group. Survivors of throat, head, and neck cancer are welcome to join in on this support group that meets the first Saturday of each month at Barnes & Noble’s coffee shop on E. Northern Lights Blvd. For any questions, call Liz 350-2165.

Friday, December 4thHealing Yoga on Fridays: A gentle Immune-Restorative Class complimented with restful poses and Yogic breathing for relaxation.  Monday, November 30th: Kenai Peninsula Women’s Cancer Support Group. Support group for women with any type of cancer, survivors or currently undergoing treatment who promotes emotional and spiritual well-being. Tuesday, December 1st: Coffee with Don. Meet with fellow prostate cancer survivors to go over any new information/resources that have been encountered, talk about how to help anyone who has contacted the Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group and just have fellowship and support. Southeast Area

 Monday, November 30th: Team Survivor Perseverance Walk/Run Program. This walking group focuses on heart rate. Meets on Mondays at 10:00am and Wednesdays at 5:15pm at Diamond Field House (until Spring) to walk indoors. There is also a yoga class on Saturdays at 10:00am. Wednesday, December 2nd: Interior Alaska Cancer Support Group. This group concentrates on general support and assistance in dealing with specific cancers. Workshop 1: Long Term Side Effects of Treatment
Introducing Anchorage Radiation Therapy’s newest oncologist, Dr. Aaron Kusano! He
will give a presentation and discussion of long-term cancer treatment (such as surgery,
chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, etc.) side effects.

Workshop 2: Demystifying Healthy Eating
Join breast cancer surgeon, Dr. Marilyn Sandford, to discuss the importance of making
healthy food choices after completing cancer treatments. She will provide tips for
developing new, healthy lifestyle patterns.

Workshop 3: Mind & Emotions as Healing Agents: Integrative Medicine at its Best
Dr. Lyn Freeman and Dr. Rebecca White will discuss how mind-body practices improve
quality of life, improve mood state, decrease both physical and emotional pain, and
reduce the likelihood of metastatic disease.

Workshop 4: Importance of Movement
Learn about how exercise can help you play a vital role in your survivorship by
increasing your energy, reducing risk of recurrence, boosting your immune system, and
by just making you feel better. Irene Jordet, BS, MPT, of Alaska Regional Hopsital’s
Oncology Rehabilitation Program, arms patients and survivors with knowledge and tools
to kick-start and/or re-boot healthy lifestyle habits.

Workshop 5: Helpful Hints for Dealing with Insomnia
If you’ve had trouble sleeping during or after cancer treatment, you’re not alone. Up to
half of all cancer patients don’t sleep well at some point, according to the National
Cancer Institute. Join Anne Nevaldine, PhD and Nancy Felton, ANP, as they discuss
these sleep issues and how to cope with them.
