What’s Happening This Week in Our Cancer Community?

October 5th – 11th

 Municipality of Anchorage Area

Monday, October 5th: “Young Cancer Sucks, But At Least I Met You” Meetup. Anyone, male or female, that is diagnosed as a young adult or is young at heart with any type of cancer is welcome to join this group. AYCC is about enjoying life, laughing and meeting new people and making new friends that understand what it’s like to go through cancer treatment. 7-9pm at the Far North Yarn Company.
Tuesday, October 6th: US Too Monthly Meeting. Join Anchorage’s prostate and testicular support group in sharing, asking questions or just listening. It’s a great time to get to know one another and spend some time with those that probably know a thing or two about what you are going through. 6pm-7:30pm. Providence Cancer Center, 2nd floor, Robert Pulliam Room.

Tuesday, October 6th: American Cancer Society Support Group. Weekly support group for cancer patients, survivors, family and caregivers. Every Tuesday, 7-8:30pm at Wells Fargo Bank. 301 W. Northern Lights, second floor conference room. 258-1937.

Wednesday, October 5th: US Too Guys Coffee and Shmoozing. Join Anchorage’s prostate and testicular support group in sharing, asking questions or just listening. It’s a great time to get to know one another and spend some time with those that probably know a thing or two about what you are going through. Every Wednesday, 10am. Wednesday, October 7th: What’s the Stitch? A come-as-you-are, when-you-are-able support group for anyone touched by that “club” no one asks to join: cancer. Come learn a new skill, share your expertise, chat about what ails you, and make new friends! Every Wednesday, 2-4pm. Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Thursday, October 8th: The Ah-LAFska Club. This mind-body-spirit program of gentle ‘laughter exercises’ will help motivate your brain chemistry to improve health and healing, based on GOOD HEART LIVING to prevent hardening of the attitudes. Meets the 2nd & last Thursday of each month. 5:30pm at Alaska Regional Cancer Care Center, MOB C, Suite 414. Call 264-1431 for more information.

Friday, October 9thWomen LISTEN Support Group. Any woman with any type of cancer is invited to attend. Weekly support group meetings every Friday 10—11:30AM at the Quilt Tree. All are welcome- Newly Diagnosed to Long Term Survivor. 222-6285, bj4wmnlisten@gmail.com or www.womenlisten.org.

Saturday, October, 10th: Yoga Therapy. For cancer caregivers, patients and survivors. Compassionate complementary care for cancer patients and caregivers. Please discuss referral with your doctors, no signed referral is necessary. A release of information between Yoga for Mental Health and your healthcare team may be requested. Billable to insurance for qualified participants.  Tuesday, October 6th: Coffee with Don. Meet with fellow prostate cancer survivors to go over any new information/resources that have been encountered, talk about how to help anyone who has contacted the Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group and just have fellowship and support.  Monday, October 5th: Team Survivor Perseverance Walk/Run Program. Monday walking group focuses on heart rate. Meets at 5:30 p.m. each week from Downtown/Valley Juneau Racquet Clubs. Wednesday, October 7th: Interior Alaska Cancer Support Group. This group concentrates on general support and assistance in dealing with specific cancers.
