Monday, December 12th: Breast Cancer Support Group. Share your questions, concerns, and feelings; expand your knowledge of breast cancer; reduce stress and anxiety; enhance your coping skills; improve your quality of life; and connect with others who understand the challenges of living with breast cancer. 4:30pm at Providence Cancer Center, 3851 Piper St., Suite U2285. Monday, December 12th: “Embrace” Movie Night. This movie is all about body image. Please join Anchorage Young Cancer Coalition and they will pay for your ticket. (carey@carpenterprogramming.com) Invite others that would like to attend as well, though they will have to pay their tickets ($13 each). This movie plays “on demand” and requires a certain number of pre-purchased tickets in order to play. There are 31 tickets that have to be bought in the next 7 days, so feel free to promote this to friends and family and anyone that might be interested. Monday, 7:30pm at Tikahtnu Movie Theaters. Tuesday, December 13th: Gentle Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors. Anchorage Radiation Therapy presents this free yoga class is taught by Margo Sorum, the Adjunct Instructor of yoga at the University of Alaska Anchorage.  1pm – 2pm. Held at Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Yoga mats provided. This class has a maximum capacity of 12. Tuesday, December 13th: Healthy Caregiver Workshop. An educational and therapeutic group for caregivers of pediatric, teen, adult, and elderly individuals with cancer, dementia, and other diseases. Meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Providence Medical Park, U Tower, Suite 2401. 3:45pm-4:45pm. Call Megan Hultquist at 212-2650 for more information.
Wednesday, December 14th: US Too Guys Coffee and Shmoozing. Join Anchorage’s prostate and testicular support group in sharing, asking questions or just listening. It’s a great time to get to know one another and spend some time with those that probably know a thing or two about what you are going through. Every Wednesday, 10am. Wednesday, December 14th: What’s The Stitch? A knitting/crocheting, come-as-you-are, when-you-are-able support group for anyone touched by that “club” no one asks to join: cancer. Learn a new skill, share your expertise, chat about what ails you, and make new friends! 2pm-4pm every Wednesday. Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Wednesday, December 14th: Fighting Holiday Blues While Undergoing Cancer Treatment. Danielle Dittmer, LPC with Bridges Counseling Center will speak about battling depression during the holiday season while undergoing cancer treatment. Please join us for this free workshop and bring a friend or family member. Hot cocoa and coffee will be available. Friday, December 16th: Women LISTEN Support Group. Any woman with any type of cancer is invited to attend. Weekly support group meetings every Friday 10—11:30AM at the Atrium in University Mall. As Needed: Planning Ahead. Learn how to complete advanced directives, power of attorney, comfort one, and other important documents. We will explore the above documents and discuss their importance. Tuesday, December 13th: Coffee with Don. Meet with fellow prostate cancer survivors to go over any new information/resources that have been encountered, talk about how to help anyone who has contacted the Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group and just have fellowship and support. Available to anyone (look for blue PC baseball hats). Every Tuesday at 11am. Kenai Safeway Store in Kenai, AK. 283-9206.
Thursday, December 15th: Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group. Small group of men whose goal is to increase awareness of prostate cancer issues on the Kenai Peninsula. Everyone welcome to come and meet with prostate cancer survivors for discussions, education and fellowship. Monday, December 12th: Team Survivor Perseverance Walk/Run Program. This walking group focuses on heart rate. Meets on Mondays at 10:00am and Wednesdays at 5:15pm at Diamond Field House (until Spring) to walk indoors. There is also a yoga class on Saturdays at 10:00am. Wednesday, December 14th: Interior Alaska Cancer Support Group. This group concentrates on general support and assistance in dealing with specific cancers.
