Municipality of Anchorage Area
Monday, January 23rd: The Ah-LAFska Club. This mind-body-spirit program of gentle ‘laughter exercises’ will help motivate your brain chemistry to improve health and healing, based on GOOD HEART LIVING to prevent hardening of the attitudes. Meets every Monday. 5:30pm at Alaska Regional Cancer Care Center, MOB C, Suite 414. Call 264-1431 for more information.
Tuesday, January 24th: Gentle Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors. Anchorage Radiation Therapy presents this free yoga class is taught by Margo Sorum, the Adjunct Instructor of yoga at the University of Alaska Anchorage.  1pm – 2pm. Held at Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Yoga mats provided. This class has a maximum capacity of 12. Must RSVP by calling 907-792-1521 or email diana.arthur@anchorageradiationtherapy.com.
Tuesday, January 24th: Look Good, Feel Better. Teaches women how to cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. Taught by professional cosmetologists, Look Good Feel Better is open to all women undergoing cancer treatment, and it’s free! 6pm-8pm. Providence Cancer Center, U-Tower 2nd floor, Suite 2281. Tuesday, January 24th: Anchorage Young Cancer Coalition Event Presents: Storytelling and Potluck. Bring your favorite food to share and join us for a storytelling extravaganza.  Come to share a story about your life or to listen to your friends share their stories or to learn more about the art of storytelling.  Promises to be an awesome night of friendship and food with the Anchorage Young Cancer Coalition. 6:30pm. Wednesday, January 25th: US Too Guys Coffee and Shmoozing. Join Anchorage’s prostate and testicular support group in sharing, asking questions or just listening. It’s a great time to get to know one another and spend some time with those that probably know a thing or two about what you are going through. Every Wednesday, 10am at Barnes & Noble Cafe. Wednesday, January 25th: What’s The Stitch? A knitting/crocheting, come-as-you-are, when-you-are-able support group for anyone touched by that “club” no one asks to join: cancer. Learn a new skill, share your expertise, chat about what ails you, and make new friends! 2pm-4pm every Wednesday. Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Friday, January 27th: Women LISTEN Support Group. Any woman with any type of cancer is invited to attend. Weekly support group meetings every Friday 10—11:30AM at the Atrium in University Mall. As Needed: Tool Box. A cancer support group for individuals diagnosed with any type and stage of cancer. At Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Care Center, Building C, Suite 414. To schedule a session, call 264-1431.
As Needed: Planning Ahead. Learn how to complete advanced directives, power of attorney, comfort one, and other important documents. We will explore the above documents and discuss their importance. Tuesday, January 24th: Coffee with Don. Meet with fellow prostate cancer survivors to go over any new information/resources that have been encountered, talk about how to help anyone who has contacted the Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group and just have fellowship and support. Available to anyone (look for blue PC baseball hats). Every Tuesday at 11am. Kenai Safeway Store in Kenai, AK. 283-9206.
Southeast Area
Monday, January 23rd: Team Survivor Perseverance Walk/Run Program. This walking group focuses on heart rate. Meets on Mondays at 10:00am and Wednesdays at 5:15pm at Diamond Field House (until Spring) to walk indoors. There is also a yoga class on Saturdays at 10:00am.
