COMING UP! Thursday, May 12th: New Norm Workshop Series. Workshop 1: Importance of Movement. Learn about how exercise can help you play a vital role in your survivorship by increasing your energy, reducing risk of recurrence, boosting your immune system, and by just making you feel better. Irene Jordet, BS, MPT, arms patients and survivors with knowledge and tools to kick-start and/or re-boot healthy lifestyle habits. The other workshops will be Nutrition with Dr. Markian Babij on May 19th and Long Term Side Effects of Cancer Treatment with Dr. Aaron Kusano on May 26th.

Our New Norm Workshop Series for Anchorage will start on May 12th. We’ll have workshops on May 12th, May 19th, and May 26th.

Monday, May 2nd: The Ah-LAFska Club. This mind-body-spirit program of gentle ‘laughter exercises’ will help motivate your brain chemistry to improve health and healing, based on GOOD HEART LIVING to prevent hardening of the attitudes. Tuesday, May 3rd: Gynecologic Cancer Support Group. Let Every Woman Know is offering a regular support group free of charge in a drop-in format. This group is facilitated by a licensed mental health clinician. Please join us! Open to women in all stages of gynecologic cancer diagnosis, treatment, or survivorship. 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month, 12-1:30pm, Providence Cancer Center Conference Room 2401, 3851 Piper Street, 2nd Floor, Tower U, Anchorage 99508. Tuesday, May 3rd: US Too Monthly Meeting. Join Anchorage’s prostate and testicular support group in sharing, asking questions or just listening. It’s a great time to get to know one another and spend some time with those that probably know a thing or two about what you are going through. 6pm-7:30pm. Providence Cancer Center, 2nd floor, Robert Pulliam Room.

Wednesday, May 4th: US Too Guys Coffee and Shmoozing. Join Anchorage’s prostate and testicular support group in sharing, asking questions or just listening. It’s a great time to get to know one another and spend some time with those that probably know a thing or two about what you are going through. Every Wednesday, 10am. Your coffee will be on US Too! Friday, May 6th: Women LISTEN Support Group. Any woman with any type of cancer is invited to attend. Weekly support group meetings every Friday 10—11:30AM at the Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. As Needed: Tool Box. A cancer support group for individuals diagnosed with any type and stage of cancer. At Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Care Center, Building C, Suite 414. To schedule a session, call 264-1431.

As Needed: Planning Ahead. Learn how to complete advanced directives, power of attorney, comfort one, and other important documents. We will explore the above documents and discuss their importance. Tuesday, May 3rd: Coffee with Don. Meet with fellow prostate cancer survivors to go over any new information/resources that have been encountered, talk about how to help anyone who has contacted the Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group and just have fellowship and support. Available to anyone (look for blue PC baseball hats). Every Tuesday at 11am. Kenai Safeway Store in Kenai, AK. 283-9206.

Southeast Area

Monday, May 2nd: Team Survivor Perseverance Walk/Run Program. This walking group focuses on heart rate. Meets on Mondays at 10:00am and Wednesdays at 5:15pm at Diamond Field House (until Spring) to walk indoors. There is also a yoga class on Saturdays at 10:00am. Fairbanks/Interior Area

Tuesday, May 3rd: Grief Recovery Support Group. Tuesday Evenings, 7 pm, Hospice Office Building, 2001 Gillam Way. Contact: David Rumph, Hospice Chaplin 458-3090.

Wednesday, May 4th: Interior Alaska Cancer Support Group. This group concentrates on general support and assistance in dealing with specific cancers. The group meets twice monthly on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the Cancer Treatment Center boardroom at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. 7pm. 374-0974 or www.interioralaskacancer.org for more info.
