Municipality of Anchorage Area
Monday, September 26th: The Ah-LAFska Club. This mind-body-spirit program of gentle ‘laughter exercises’ will help motivate your brain chemistry to improve health and healing, based on GOOD HEART LIVING to prevent hardening of the attitudes. Tuesday, September 27th: Gentle Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors. Anchorage Radiation Therapy presents this free yoga class is taught by Margo Sorum, the Adjunct Instructor of yoga at the University of Alaska Anchorage.  1pm – 2pm. Held at Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Yoga mats provided. This class has a maximum capacity of 12. Must RSVP by calling 907-792-1521 or email diana.arthur@anchorageradiationtherapy.com.
Tuesday, September 27th: Look Good, Feel Better. This group teaches women how to cope with the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment. Taught by professional cosmetologists, it is open to all women undergoing cancer treatment, and it’s free! All patients receive a makeup kit filled with items donated from the cosmetics industry. 6pm-8pm at Providence Cancer Center, U Tower, Suite 2281. To register, call Dana Warrick at 212-6870.
Tuesday, September 27th: American Cancer Society Support Group. Weekly support group for cancer patients, survivors, family and caregivers. Meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 7-8:30pm at Wells Fargo Bank. 301 W. Northern Lights, second floor conference room. 258-1937.
Wednesday, September 28th: Prostate Cancer Awareness Event. Get information on prostate cancer symptoms and screening, plus special-edition Marvel comics featuring Thor and Captain America! The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and the Anchorage branch of US Too will host a prostate cancer information booth at this event at Bosco’s Comic and Game Store, 2301 Spenard Road. 11am-2pm.
Wednesday, September 28th: What’s The Stitch? A knitting/crocheting, come-as-you-are, when-you-are-able support group for anyone touched by that “club” no one asks to join: cancer. Learn a new skill, share your expertise, chat about what ails you, and make new friends! 2pm-4pm every Wednesday. Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Friday, September 30th: Women LISTEN Support Group. Any woman with any type of cancer is invited to attend. Weekly support group meetings every Friday 10—11:30AM at the Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Saturday, October 1st: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. This is a celebration of survivorship – an occasion to express hope and shared determination to this breast cancer’s last century. As Needed: Planning Ahead. Learn how to complete advanced directives, power of attorney, comfort one, and other important documents. We will explore the above documents and discuss their importance. Monday, September 26th: Kenai Peninsula Women’s Cancer Support Group. Support group for women with any type of cancer, survivors or currently undergoing treatment who promotes emotional and spiritual well-being. Tuesday, September 27th: Coffee with Don. Meet with fellow prostate cancer survivors to go over any new information/resources that have been encountered, talk about how to help anyone who has contacted the Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group and just have fellowship and support. Available to anyone (look for blue PC baseball hats). Every Tuesday at 11am. Kenai Safeway Store in Kenai, AK. 283-9206.
Southeast Area
Monday, September 26th: Team Survivor Perseverance Walk/Run Program. This walking group focuses on heart rate. Meets on Mondays at 10:00am and Wednesdays at 5:15pm at Diamond Field House (until Spring) to walk indoors. There is also a yoga class on Saturdays at 10:00am.
