Municipality of Anchorage Area
Monday, February 13th: The Ah-LAFska Club. This mind-body-spirit program of gentle ‘laughter exercises’ will help motivate your brain chemistry to improve health and healing, based on GOOD HEART LIVING to prevent hardening of the attitudes. Tuesday, February 14th: Gentle Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors. Anchorage Radiation Therapy presents this free yoga class is taught by Margo Sorum, the Adjunct Instructor of yoga at the University of Alaska Anchorage.  1pm – 2pm. Held at Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Yoga mats provided. This class has a maximum capacity of 12. Must RSVP by calling 907-792-1521 or email diana.arthur@anchorageradiationtherapy.com.
Tuesday, February 14th: Healthy Caregiver Workshop. An educational and therapeutic group for caregivers of pediatric, teen, adult, and elderly individuals with cancer, dementia, and other diseases. Meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Providence Medical Park, U Tower, Suite 2401. 3:45pm-4:45pm. Call Megan Hultquist at 212-2650 for more information.
Wednesday, February 15th: US Too Guys Coffee and Shmoozing. Join Anchorage’s prostate and testicular support group in sharing, asking questions or just listening. It’s a great time to get to know one another and spend some time with those that probably know a thing or two about what you are going through. Every Wednesday, 10am at Barnes & Noble Cafe. Wednesday, February 15th: I Can Cope: Nutrition During Cancer Treatment. The Providence Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society brings you this cooking series. Providence BP Cancer Resource Center Artventure room, 1st floor. 2-3:30pm. 212-6870 to RSVP.
Wednesday, February 15th: What’s The Stitch? A knitting/crocheting, come-as-you-are, when-you-are-able support group for anyone touched by that “club” no one asks to join: cancer. Learn a new skill, share your expertise, chat about what ails you, and make new friends! 2pm-4pm every Wednesday. Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Center, Building C, Suite 414. Friday, February 17th: Women LISTEN Support Group. Any woman with any type of cancer is invited to attend. Weekly support group meetings every Friday 10—11:30AM at the Atrium in University Mall. Friday, February 17th & Saturday, February 18th: Men’s Wellness Fair at Alaska Aces Games. This event combines two things Anchorage and Valley Radiation Therapy Centers consider to be of the utmost importance – health care and hockey. Visit their table and other healthcare providers at the fair on the dry side of the arena for an express health check-up, healthy living giveaways, and face-to-face conversation with Aces trusted providers. Doors at 6pm, puck drops at 7:15pm. Get your tickets at www.alaskaaces.com.
As Needed: Tool Box. A cancer support group for individuals diagnosed with any type and stage of cancer. At Alaska Regional Hospital Cancer Care Center, Building C, Suite 414. To schedule a session, call 264-1431.
As Needed: Planning Ahead. Learn how to complete advanced directives, power of attorney, comfort one, and other important documents. We will explore the above documents and discuss their importance. Tuesday, February 14th: Coffee with Don. Meet with fellow prostate cancer survivors to go over any new information/resources that have been encountered, talk about how to help anyone who has contacted the Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group and just have fellowship and support. Available to anyone (look for blue PC baseball hats). Every Tuesday at 11am. Kenai Safeway Store in Kenai, AK. 283-9206.
Thursday, February 16th: Kenai Peninsula Prostate Cancer Support Group. Small group of men whose goal is to increase awareness of prostate cancer issues on the Kenai Peninsula. Everyone welcome to come and meet with prostate cancer survivors for discussions, education and fellowship. Southeast Area
Monday, February 13th: Team Survivor Perseverance Walk/Run Program. This walking group focuses on heart rate. Meets on Mondays at 10:00am and Wednesdays at 5:15pm at Diamond Field House (until Spring) to walk indoors. There is also a yoga class on Saturdays at 10:00am. Tuesday, February 14th: Grief Recovery Support Group. Tuesday Evenings, 7 pm, Hospice Office Building, 2001 Gillam Way. Contact: David Rumph, Hospice Chaplin 458-3090.
Wednesday, February 15th: Interior Alaska Cancer Support Group. This group concentrates on general support and assistance in dealing with specific cancers.
